Birthdays are for everyone...even for our four-legged friends. There are simple ways to make your pup’s day special that take little planning and only few dollars. I never thought I would be that crazy dog person, but I found myself baking my dog Freedom homemade Peanut Butter Pup-cakes and spoiling her with new treats and toys for her 1st birthday.
We combined some simple ingredients to make a tasty dog-friendly cupcake. Our IKEA kitchen cart made it easy and fast to whip up a batch. Freedom eagerly awaited her special treat and supervised the process.
After they were done and cool, she posed for her birthday picture. This only lasted a few seconds before there was peanut butter on her nose and the pup-cake was gone.
Peanut Butter Pup-cake Recipe
- 1 egg
- ½ cup peanut butter
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1 cup whole wheat flour (preferred) or white flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Reserve some of the peanut butter and shredded carrots for decoration. Combine the egg, peanut butter, oil, vanilla, and honey in a mixing bowl. Blend well. Stir in the carrots and mix. Sift the flour and baking soda and fold into the batter.
Grease a 6-cup cupcake mold, or fill with liners. Fill each mold ¾ of the way full with batter. Bake for 20 minutes or until cooked completely. Remove from the oven and let the pup-cakes cool before frosting.
Frost with leftover peanut butter and top with remaining shredded carrots. Then, add your own personal touch with a Milk Bone or your dog’s favorite treat.

- Before you feed your pet any new food, make sure you are not including anything they may be allergic to, such as nuts.
- Use a mini-cupcake pan for smaller dogs. These full sized may be too much for them to handle.
- Add in extra peanut butter for additional flavor.
